| Martha loved growing up in Worland. She graduated from Worland High School in 1974 and attended Northwest Community College on a debate scholarship. Martha graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1978 with a degree in Political Science. She then moved to Texas to attend law school. Martha graduated from Baylor Law School with honors and immediately began practicing law as a business litigator in Houston, Texas in 1981. She achieved an important personal goal when she became a partner in the firm and eventually, a named partner.
Martha and her husband, Roger were married in 1982. They have 3 wonderful children, Amber, Katie and Taylor as well as two great sons-in-law, and one incredible daughter-in-law. Martha loves being a Nana to Jared, Katelyn, David and Macie!
Roger who is originally from Alabama, is a former fighter pilot in the US Airforce and was a corporate pilot when they married. After a few years, he began working in the training division of NASA's Shuttle Program. He was part of a team that trained Astronauts and Flight Controllers for Shuttle missions at Johnson Space Center.
Martha and Roger had wonderful careers, great friends and were involved in the life of their community. But Martha greatly missed life in Wyoming and longed for her kids to experience living in small town Wyoming.
In 1994, Roger accepted a job with Admiral Beverage, headquartered in Worland, for a position in Utah. Martha and her family moved to Utah where she had the opportunity to stay home with her children. While in Utah, Martha was able to pursue her passion for encouraging Christian women in their spiritual and leadership development.
In 2001 Martha and her family finally came back to Worland and she began volunteering to help her local community that had given so much to her during her childhood. Martha served several terms on the board of her community's economic development group, Washakie Development Association. Martha was also privileged to serve many years on the board of the Washakie Museum and Cultural Center and was President of the board during the planning and construction of their beautiful new facility. The Museum has become an important historical and cultural hub for the entire county.
Martha is also grateful for the opportunity to have served as a member of the Northwest College Foundation board, raising money for student scholarships. Martha was instrumental in launching Washakie Leadership - an initiative to develop local leaders, serving on the original leadership team for Washakie Leadership Institute. She taught conflict resolution at various county leadership institutes in northern Wyoming, including Washakie, Park, Hot Springs and Big Horn County.
Politics has always been a hobby of Martha's. But she never considered running for office until some friends approached her about running for Wyoming House District 27. After some thought and prayer, she agreed to run. Martha has been encouraging people to get more involved in the political process for many years. Particularly if they were concerned about how things were going. She taught a class on the US Constitution to help people better understand the responsibilities we have as citizens. Martha felt it was time she stepped up to serve.
Martha currently serves as the Representative for House District 27 in the Wyoming 67th Legislature. She serves on the Education Committee and the Minerals, Business & Economic Development Committee.
Martha appreciates the trust and support the people of District 27 have given her. She is truly thankful they have allowed her the privilege of serving them and asks for their vote for her to continue working on their behalf. |
