My ancestors emigrated from Ireland to escape oppressive government and seek freedom and opportunity in America. They settled in Hollywood Township near Watertown, MN in the 1800s, farming the land and contributing to society.
Born in 1966, I was the fifth of seven children to KJ and Barbara McDonald. Growing up in a large family taught me the value of hard work early on. At nine, I started my first job as a paperboy, and by fourteen, I was working at the local grocery store, where I became the favorite "bag boy" due to my gift of speaking.
Throughout high school, I balanced work with sports and activities like wrestling, baseball, theater, and yearbook photography. Inspired by my father, KJ, a photographer and Air Force veteran, I earned a degree in photography from H.T.C. and opened my studio in Delano in 1988 at age 22. I have since won numerous state and national awards, earning my Master's Degree in photography in 2003 and my Craftsman Degree in 2008.
Active in my community, I am a member of the Delano Lion's Club, Son of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Delano Fourth of July Committee, and Delano Chamber of Commerce. I volunteer at Delano Schools and am an active member of the Delano Catholic community as a lector and cantor.
Married to Rachel, we have three boys- Alex, Jacob, and Aiden. I am a devoted husband and father, living by the principles of God, family, and country.
In 2000, I ran for city council and won, was re-elected in 2004, and elected Mayor of Delano in 2006. In 2010, I began my first term in the Minnesota State Legislature and continue to serve to good people of Wright County! |
