Lisa Stone Barnes, a Nash County native, is currently serving District 7 in the North Carolina House representing Franklin and Nash Counties. Through her service in the NC House and on the Nash County Board of Commissioners, she has worked to promote quality of life while also keeping taxes low for citizens.
Lisa began her career in the legal field as a real estate paralegal with a private firm. She also worked in the Rocky Mount Planning and Development Department. Lisa is a graduate of the UNC School of Government's Advanced Leadership Corps program and is a mentor with the Local Elected Leaders Academy.
While community and public service is an important part of Lisa's life, her family is her first priority. Lisa has worked in agribusiness alongside her husband, Johnny Barnes, to whom she has been married for 32 years. They have three children- Bethany, Joshua, and Jacy. Lisa and her family are active members of Ridgecrest Worship Center.
Lisa graduated from Southern Nash High School and went on to obtain an Associate of Arts degree from Peace College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University. Lisa also completed the post graduate Legal Assistants Program at Meredith College.
North Carolina is a great place to live, work and raise a family. In order to keep our state moving in the right direction we need leaders like Lisa with the right expertise, vision and leadership skills. Lisa believes our citizens deserve high-paying jobs in a diversified economy, access to quality healthcare, good roads and infrastructure, and quality education. We need leaders in the General Assembly who understand that government's main function is to balance the budget, control spending and keep taxes low, so that individuals and communities can continue to excel and reach their highest potential.
Lisa's diverse experience with businesses, managing budgets, serving our communities and working to solve real problems enables her to provide conservative leadership with a common-sense approach. Throughout Lisa's leadership experience in the House and on the Board of Commissioners she facilitated practical solutions to the issues her constituents face. She is committed to listening to and representing the citizens in Senate District 11 and working with members of the General Assembly to ensure that North Carolina's best days are still ahead.
