Bio

Scott's story is the American story - values from the heartland, a middle-class upbringing in a strong family, hard work and education as the means of getting ahead, and the conviction that a life so blessed should be lived in service to others. Having settled in Middle Tennessee many years ago he and his wife Teresa are raising their family in Northern Maury County. They regularly attend and are members of First Family Baptist Church in Columbia, TN. Scott worked his way through college with the help of an athletic scholarship for both football and baseball at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. He majored in history, having always had a desire to learn about the great leaders and circumstances of the past, so that he might one day, if so called, help build a better future. Scott, as football player, was a four year letter winner in two sports for the Badgers and named honorable mention All-American in 1987. In Baseball he was a two time All-Big Ten member in Baseball for both 1988 and 1989. In his professional baseball career he won a batting title in South Bend Indiana and was also named the MVP of the Florida State League. He was named to the All Star teams in the Midwest and Florida State leagues in 1990 and 1991. Scott spent time in the Venezuelan Baseball Leagues where he won the Most Valuable Player, Home Run and RBI Titles. Immediately after college he was signed as a punter for the Cincinnati Bengals while also being drafted by the Chicago White Sox to play baseball. With these experiences he not only learned to take a hit in football, but also how to deliver them in baseball, something that can come in very handy in local politics. Once Scott's professional sports career came to a close he returned to his roots and took over the leadership of a 1200-acre ranch with more than 550 head of cattle. Just a few years later he and Teresa took control of their own cattle ranch and successfully operated a 100 head cow/calf operation for many years until the birth of their children. Eventually Scott began to pursue a career in the auto industry. And for 10 years he forged his character and built his reputation while working for both Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone in sales, service, and management. While working for a local dealership in Atlanta, Georgia, Scott rose to the position of Assistant Service manager for one of the largest auto dealerships east of the Mississippi. This opportunity allowed Scott to gain his expertise in the management of people. For the past eight years, Scott has been helping families in our community realize the American dream of owning a home. Scott has risen to the top of Mortgage loan originators by being named to the Top Performers and Chairman's Club for Regions Bank. This position has allowed him to council many individuals about their finances. Scott's work with ranching, the auto industry and financing make him not just an ideal candidate, but also certainly one of the most diverse and experienced leaders to come out of Maury County. Until recently he served as Chairman of the Maury County Republican Party. In 2010 and 2011 he was named Chairman of the County Commission. Scott has proposed legislation to allocate money to protect our investment with the schools, working to create a perpetual fund of money to maintain and upgrade our schools, so they last and provide a safe and successful learning environment. As chairman he attended every school board meeting trying to create a better relationship between the commission and the school board. Proving he is a man of action and not simply words, Scott has also introduced hundreds of recommendation to the commission to ensure growth, prosperity and economic benefits to Maury County. Scott has played a major role in Maury county politics. He was integral in proposing and getting funding for our county website, fighting the landfill and protecting the Duck River. He served on the Budget Committee in 2011-2012 when Maury county posted its lowest deficit in a decade a produced a surplus at the end of the year of $1,200,000. His most important piece of legislation was his proposal to protect the 2nd amendment rights of Maury county citizens. Scott believes in open and transparent government and has pushed to make sure our budgets, agendas and minutes are on line for both county and school business. In his spare time, Scott gives back to the community in a variety of ways. He volunteered as an assistant football and baseball coach for Spring Hill High School. He is very involved with Spring Hill Little League T-ball. He has coached with the Columbia soccer association and now coaches Spring Hill little league football. Scott is also a contributing member of WKRM's "Inside Maury County" radio show giving updates on local government and community events. He is half of the radio broadcast team of Columbia Lions Football on WKRM for the last two years.
