Jon Hawkins is a two-term Utah House Representative from Pleasant Grove, being first elected in 2018 to fill the seat left open by Rep. Brian Greene. He currently serves as the House Judiciary Committee Chairman, and as a member of the House Business and Labor Committee, the Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, the House Ethics Committee, and the Occupational and Professional Licensure Review Committee. Hawkins also serves as a co-chair of the Utah Digital Wellness, Citizenship, and Safe Technology Commission, which is focused on ensuring Utah's youth and their parents/guardians are using technology safely.
Hawkins was born to Ron and Anne Hawkins of Orem, the fourth of five boys and a girl in the family. He was educated in the Alpine School District system at Orem Elementary, Lakeridge Junior High School and Mountain View High School, where he excelled in academics and participated in several extracurricular activities including athletics, student government and A Cappella choir.
Upon graduation from Mountain View High School, he served an LDS Church mission to Seoul, Korea, attended Brigham Young University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Public Relations.
It was at BYU that Jon met and married his sweetheart, Mary Hinckley. Upon his graduation they moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue his career in public relations and finish her schooling in nursing at Georgetown University. Jon joined the public relations firm of Edelman Worldwide where he was instrumental in several successful national and international public affairs and media campaigns for clients including the 9/11 Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Association of American Railroads, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 2006, the Hawkins moved back to Utah to work at Connect Marketing in Provo. They settled in the Apple Grove community of Pleasant Grove, and have lived in PG for the last 15 years. During that time, Jon pursued a Master of Business Administration degree from the Marriott School of Management at BYU, graduating in 2010 with an emphasis in marketing and organizational strategy.
Jon currently works for Adobe, having been a part of the acquisition of Workfront. He currently works with the partner business to introduce the Workfront product line into the partner ecosystem. During his time at Workfront, Jon has coached some of the most successful organizations in the world on how to streamline their work processes to gain internal efficiencies, including Coca-Cola, Walgreens, Disney, Nike, Fossil and Samsung.
Of his desire to continue to run for office, Jon says, "I love the State of Utah and the people of Pleasant Grove and American Fork. I want to continue to serve them. I believe I still have a great deal to offer- an innovative way of thinking, a passion for the economic development of our communities, an understanding of how organizations grow and thrive, and an ability to work with others toward a common goal to get the job done."
He and Mary have four children ranging in ages from 17 to nine, who are all growing (in spite of their parents' advice to stay young), and who are all active in various activities. |
