Capitol Report -- Day 6, 2015

Day 6 – The day started early with the House Appropriations sub committees meetings. The subcommittees proposed the following changes, QBE funding changes reflect better estimates, equalization increase of 7.4 million. The Governor’s task force on Education budget was reduced to $750,000 from $1,000,000. The House is recommending a State Health Care study group, including part time school systems employees, to report to the Governor by June 30, 2015. The House Appropriations Committee will meet on Wednesday, January, 28, 2015 to vote on the budgets.

We have received a request for input on a proposed yearly Title 20 cleanup bill. The request is to provide specifically what code section you would like changed, the language that should be revised or repealed and why. Please send your responses before the end of the day January 30, 2015 to mwsurma@bellsouth.net. I will compile the response into a GSSA response by the January 31, 2015 deadline.

Day 7 will be busy. The House Appropriation Committee meeting begins at 8:00 a.m to vote on the budgets. House and Senate meet at 10:00 a.m., Senate Education and Youth Committee will meet at 1 p.m. to consider an amended SB 2, and House Education Committee will meet at 3 p.m. for their first meeting of the year.
