The Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S., better known as DISCUS, has
contributed $100,000
to the effort to put a liquor
privatization initiative on Oregon’s November election ballot. DISCUS has
previously claimed to be “neutral” on the subject of privatization. As
mentioned here last week, DISCUS has hired former state legislator Connie
Wilson to represent its interests in North Carolina.
Meanwhile in Pennsylvania, the three-year-long
push to privatize appears stalled as no one seems ready to compromise. Privatization
supporters are unwilling to accept efforts by the state-run system to modernize
or reform the status quo. |
