Report from the Capitol -- Days 1 & 2

Welcome to our brand new PAGE Report from the Capitol newsletter!  We are excited about relaunching with an attractive new design.  The second session of the 152nd Georgia General Assembly convened yesterday at 10:00 am.  The tone at the Capitol has already suggested that this will be a fast a furious session as legislators are racing to finish session in order to raise campaign funds before the Primary Elections on Tuesday, May 20th. Stay tuned to our daily reports throughout the session to receive updates on legislation affecting education in Georgia.  

The Atlanta Journal Constitution recently conducted polls surveying registered voters on a variety of policy issues including education. 54 percent of respondents said that if the state has extra money to spend, then their highest priority would be to increase funding for public schools.  To read the full article, CLICK HERE.

Georgia's 2014 budget will be released tomorrow, Wednesday, January 15th.  We expect education funding to be a major component.  State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge will be presenting the education budget tomorrow at 2:00 pm in Room 341 at the State Capitol.  What will policy makers do to alleviate school systems from furlough days, large class sizes, and truncated school years?
