Department of Community Health Changes Portions of the State Health Benefit Plan

On January 27th at 10 am the DCH Board convened a special meeting to address issues with the new SHBP insurance coverage. Commissioner Reese cited confusion about the plan details and the financial stress caused to members as the reasons for these changes. The board approved the following changes:

Co-pays for prescriptions

  • Tier 1- $20 for generic medication
  • Tier 2- $50 for non-specialty medication
  • Tier 3- $80 for specialty medication

Co-pays for in network office visits

  • Primary care visits(family care, general care, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN) - $35
  • Specialists- -$45
  • Rehab(Physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac rehab, etc.) - $25
  • Emergency room- $150
  • Urgent care- $35

These changes apply to all tiers of coverage bronze, silver and gold. All changes will be effective in March of 2014 but will be retroactive to January 1, 2014.

There will be no change to the Blue Cross Blue Shield contract for 2014. We hope DCH will release more written information immediately. Below is all the written information we have at this time. Tune in to WXIA (NBC) and WSB-TV (ABC) local news tonight to view a reaction from PAGE Director of Legislative Affairs, Margaret Ciccarelli.
