Amended FY2014 Budget Passes Appropriations

On Wednesnday, January 22nd, the House Appropriations committee met to discuss the amended Fiscal Year 2014 budget. There were no major adjustments to the budget that was presented last week to the Joint Education Appropriations subcommittees. The changes that the subcommittee did recommend to the full committee consisted of increases in the budgets of the local school districts of Troup County, Tift County, and Ware County as well as added funding for Devereux and Murphy Harpst, two residential treatment centers that provide education for the residents of their facilities. All in all, this consisted of an added $2,969,323 to the education budget for 2014. The most important thing to come from this meeting was Representative Tom Dixon, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, making it a point to local school districts that their budgets should be correct before they submit them to the state as it is difficult to move funds around to make up for these mistakes.

The approved budget now moves to the full House of Representatives with a vote set for Friday. To view Governor's Report for the Amended FY2014 budget, CLICK HERE.
