BioRepresentative Alan Baker was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006.
He was born in Brewton on July 15, 1956 graduated from T.R. Miller High School in Brewton, received an A.A. degree from East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi and received his B.S. degree from Auburn University in 1978 with a major in history and minor in political science.
Representative Baker devoted 27 years to public education, first as a teacher-coach in Phenix City, then returning home to Brewton where he taught history and coached football and track at T.R. Miller. During his tenure as coach, Representative Baker amassed 10 state championships, five for football and five for track. For his accomplishments, he was honored by being selected and inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Association Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
He retired from public education in 2005 and now dedicates his full time energies as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives to provide active and accessible legislative service for his Baldwin and Escambia County district, which includes seven municipalities.
Representative Baker serves on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross of Escambia County, the Brewton Area YMCA, Escambia Habitat for Humanity, and the Children's Advocacy Center. He is a member of the Escambia County Retired Educators Association and previously served as a member of the Brewton Kiwanis Club.
He is married to his high school sweetheart, Kaki Stokes Baker, who is a retired teacher and a realtor. They attend First Baptist Church in Brewton where he is an instrumentalist in the Praise Band.
Shortly after his election to the House, Representative Baker was asked to join the 'House Band' to share his musical talents as a member of the musical group of legislators who have entertained at assorted legislative functions and charitable events including the Governor's Annual Christmas Ball.
