BioSenator Derek Mallow was elected to serve Georgia's 2nd Senate District, which includes a portion of Chatham County. He previously represented the citizens of House District 163, which includes portions of Chatham County. He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2020. During his time, he served on the following House Committees- Economic Development & Tourism, Retirement, and State Planning and Community Affairs. He currently serves as a member of the Senate Committees on Children and Families, Economic Development and Tourism, Ethics, State and Local Governmental Operations and Transportation. Sen. Mallow is a Savannah native, graduating from Jenkins High School in Savannah. He graduated from Asbury University with degrees in leadership and ministry. He then obtained his Masters of Public Administration from Savannah State University and has a graduate certificate in non-profit organization of leadership. Sen. Mallow is now the Executive Director/CEO of East Savannah United, a community revitalization nonprofit. Sen. Mallow is very involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving in the organization for over 13 years, where he served as the field director. Sen. Mallow is a board member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Sen. Mallow is a member of a national service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega; the 100 Black Men of Savannah; and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Tau Beta Sigma Chapter
