Bio

Senator Bill Cowsert, a Republican, was elected to the Georgia State Senate to serve Senate District 46 in 2006. He represents the citizens of Oconee County and portions of Barrow, Clarke, Gwinnett, and Walton County. Sen. Cowsert serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Secretary of the Senate Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting, and Secretary of the Senate Committee on Rules. Sen. Cowsert also serves as a member of the Senate Committee on Insurance and Labor and Ex Officio of the Senate Committee on Finance. Born Sept. 1, 1958, in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Macon, Georgia, Sen. Cowsert graduated from Macon Central High School, earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Presbyterian College, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. Sen. Cowsert is a founding partner of the Athens' based law firm Cowsert & Heath. He is the past president of the Athens Sertoma Club and Clarke County Heart Association, and past board member of the Athens Touchdown Club. Sen. Cowsert and his wife, Amy, are the parents of three grown children- Will, Bob, and Caty. They are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, where Sen. Cowsert is an elder.
