Bio

Consuelo Hernandez is on a mission to make things better for the people of Cochise, Pima and Santa Cruz counties. She knew from a very early age that her passion for her community would lead her to public service.

She often likes to say, "As a young Latina, my parents taught me the value of serving others. From the time I started at first grade at Liberty Elementary to when I graduated from Sunnyside High School, I knew that serving others was important. But I never thought that one day I would be President of the Sunnyside Union School District School Board and have the chance to serve the schools I love as an alumni." After graduation, Consuelo decided to attend Arizona State University. At ASU, Consuelo had few resources and little guidance, and quickly realized the system of higher education was never going to properly serve students from communities of color. After graduating with a degree in Global Health, Consuelo dedicated her career to mentoring at-risk youth and has spent the last decade fighting for education equity in Tucson and Pima County. In addition to serving on the School Board, Consuelo has hosted free citizenship clinics, raised money for students to pay for their DACA renewals as well as providing public health services in Panama and Ghana. In recent years, Consuelo has continued to build her education credentials by studying for an Masters in Law with a concentration in economics at the University of Arizona as well as a certificate in education finance from George Washington University in Washington DC. She believes that continuing to pursue her educational goals will help inspire students at Sunnyside Union to reach for their dreams.

As LD-21's next State Representative, Consuelo is committed to restoring funding for education, helping rebuild Arizona's economy by investing in our small business community and invest in infrastructure and renewable energy resources. She will work with fellow House Members to build critical coalitions that will deliver on the needs of her District and the people of Arizona.
