Bio

Juan Alanis began a career in public service on his 21st birthday when he proudly pinned on a badge as a law enforcement officer. For nearly three decades, he has dedicated his life to protecting others. Juan has received three awards for saving the lives of others, including a decoration for rescuing a child whose father was trying to burn down a house with his daughter inside it.

The newly created 22nd Assembly District is more than just borders on a map; for Juan, it is home. It is where he married his wife, Barbara, raised their three children, and worked as a peace officer, protecting and serving in nearly every community in Stanislaus County over the course of his career.

Juan is vice-chairman of the Assembly Committees on Public Safety and Agriculture. He also serves on the Assembly Committees for Business & Professions, Labor, Military & Veterans Affairs, and Water, Parks & Wildlife. Juan has also been appointed to over a dozen select committees, highlighting the respect he has earned from his colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

Juan successfully moved five bills into law during his first year in the legislature. Those proposals expanded privacy protection of kidnapping survivors, enhanced the safety of youth sports, supported first responders, streamlined law enforcement training standards, and protected horse racing in California. In addition, he co-authored numerous pieces of bipartisan legislation that also became law.

As a proud member of the California Problem Solvers Caucus, Juan focuses on delivering for the constituents of his Central Valley district and working towards practical solutions for all Californians. He hopes to continue bringing his Public Safety expertise to Sacramento to improve Californians' quality of life. In addition to helping shape policy that makes Californians safer, Juan will continue to fight to reduce the cost of living for working-class families, protect the Central Valley's water rights, and be a true champion for the 22nd District's agricultural and business communities.
