BioTri Ta was elected to California's Seventieth District in 2022. Previously, Tri served his first term on the Westminster City Council in 2006. Two years later, he was selected to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem. In 2012, Ta made history and became the first Vietnamese-American elected mayor in the United States.
Ta's American Dream started when seeking political freedom, his family immigrated to the United States from Saigon, Vietnam. Within just a couple of years of arriving here, he graduated from Cal State Los Angeles.
As a small business owner, Ta understands first-hand the struggles of operating a small business in California. It was his experience as a business owner and a community advocate that inspired him to first run for office.
Since being elected to the Legislature, Ta has introduced legislation to lower costs for working families, reduce homelessness, enhance public safety in our communities, and improve the quality of life for our region.
In his first year, Assemblyman Ta had four bills signed by the Governor, including measures to hold government accountable on failed public safety policies and to increase opportunities for vocational education, among others.
The Community Associations Institute awarded Ta with their prestigious "Legislator of the Year" award in 2024 for his work on his HOA board accountability bill. He also received an A+ rating from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association for his steadfast commitment to protecting Prop 13.
Ta lives in Westminster with his wife and two daughters.
