Senator Jaquez Lewis was elected to the Colorado State Senate in November 2020 and serves Eastern Boulder County and Southwest Weld County, home to Longmont, Lafayette and Erie. Prior to becoming Senator, she served Boulder County in the Colorado House of Representatives. She currently serves as a member of the Health & Human Services and Local Government & Housing Committees.
Senator Jaquez Lewis was a licensed pharmacist and has been a leader in national health care policy and at the center of Colorado's efforts to bring down the cost of prescription drugs. She was the prime sponsor of a bill to create Colorado's Prescription Drug Affordability Board and also sponsored Colorado's legislation to create a drug importation program, two insulin affordability bills, Colorado's public health care option and the reduction of surprise billing legislation.
With a passion for advancing public health, she then joined the Boulder County Board of Health and also played a key role in the emergency response to the 2013 floods, which focused on providing housing assistance to residents in need and caring for animals in danger.
As the former president of Boulder Pride - now called Out Boulder County - Senator Jaquez Lewis used her powerful voice as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community to advocate for the advancement of civil rights and equality - issues that remain central to her political platform as an elected official in the legislature.
Senator Jaquez Lewis is a member of the Democratic, Latino, LGBTQ, Women's and Gun Violence Prevention caucuses. She currently lives in Boulder County, Colorado, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy.
Senator Jaquez Lewis is committed to tackling challenges ranging from protecting our community from gun violence to helping working families afford health care and housing. She is committed to ensuring that Colorado is a safe, fair and inclusive place for all.
