Robert Rodriguez was elected to serve Senate District 32 in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, representing southwest Denver and small parts of Glendale and unincorporated Arapahoe County. Senator Rodriguez currently serves as Majority Leader, having formerly served as Assistant Majority Leader, Chair of the Business, Labor & Technology Committee and the Legislative Audit Committee, and as Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee. Senator Rodriguez moved to Colorado when he was four years old. He was raised in a politically active, working-class family and grew up attending Colorado public schools.
He graduated from Northglenn High School, and he worked his way up from a mailroom job to a senior position at a Denver insurance agency. Before being elected to the Senate, Senator Rodriguez was director of business management at Independence House, an organization founded by his father to help former criminal offenders re-enter society. He has also served as Vice Chair of the Denver Democrats. Senator Rodriguez is focused on making a difference for Coloradans on critical issues like personal privacy, criminal justice, affordable housing, providing for full employment and a living wage, and quality affordable health care. He supports free and accessible preschool and kindergarten for all Colorado children. He believes in fixing the criminal justice system by means of sentencing reform, substance abuse, and mental health counseling, and rehabilitation programs like the one his family has run for decades. Robert lives in Virginia Village with his wife Deidre and their two dogs and two cats.
