Bio

Senator Freddie Powell Sims, a Democrat from Daw - son, was first elected in 2008 to serve Senate District 12, which includes Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Early, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell and Webster County. Sen. Sims served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 2004 to 2008. She served on the following House Committees- Education, Economic Development, Tourism, Transportation and Natural Resources and the Environment. Currently, she is Secretary of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth. She is a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Interstate Cooperation, and Natural Resources and the Environment. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Agriculture and Natural Resources and Education and Higher Education. Sen. Sims special appointments have included- Education Commission of the State of Georgia appointed by Governor Deal; Georgia's Education Finance Commission; Georgia's Educational Ethics Taskforce (both appointments by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle; Georgia's Children Cabinet appointed by Governor Kemp; Justice for Children Cabinet, Appeals Court Judge Nahimas; Child Welfare and Reform Commission appointed by Governor Deal; Long Term Aquifer Storage Commission appointed by Speaker Glenn Richardson; Foster Initiative Study appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle; College and Career Academies appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle; Georgia-Alabama Joint Study Committee appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle; Southern Regional Educational Board appointed by Lt.
