Bio

Senator Harold Jones II, a Democrat, was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2014. He represents the 22nd Senate District, which includes portions of Richmond County. Senator Jones serves as the Democratic Whip. He serves as Ex-Officio of the Senate Committees on Ethics and Rules as well as a member of the Senate Committees on Judiciary, Public Safety, Reapportionment and Redistricting, State Institutions and Property and Higher Education. In 2004, he was elected as the first African American Solicitor General for Richmond County with endorsements from the Augusta Chronicle, Augusta Focus and Metro Courier. In 2008, he was re-elected as Solicitor General. As Solicitor General, Sen. Jones handled misdemeanor crimes and strived to balance representation of the State with advocacy for victims and to maintain policies that apply standards of fairness and equality for all concerned. Senator Jones has long been an active member of his community. His affiliations include the NAACP, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Downtown Rotary Club, the Greater Augusta Arts Council (former chairman), the Richmond Burke County Youth Council (former chairman), Democratic Party Member, Leadership Augusta (former board member), and Leadership Georgia. Senator Jones created the Harold V. Jones II Social Studies Award, which is given to a Glenn Hills High School senior who plans to study political science in college. Senator Jones earned his Bachelor's degree from South Carolina State University in 1991. In 1994, he graduated from North Carolina Central University Law School. Senator Jones is a former Adjunct Professor for Georgia Military College, Paine College, Voorhees College and the University of Phoenix.
