BioSteven grew up on a small family farm in southwest Riley County. Howe graduated from Manhattan High School, and then earned a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University majoring in Speech. After graduating from K-State, Howe completed a legislative internship on Capitol Hill which led to a 13-year career of public service where he helped Kansans working for two Members of Congress.
Steven and his wife Tamara have called Salina home for 19 years, and are beyond blessed to be raising their five children here. They are owners of the Tamara Howe School of Dance, LLC, in downtown Salina which was founded in 2007. When not in the Legislature, Steven works full-time as the sole technician at Howe Pest Management, LLC. Howe is licensed and certified by the Kansas Department of Agriculture to treat structural (7E) and wood-destroying pests (7A).
Representative Howe currently serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Budget Committee, and also serves on the House Committee on Appropriations. Howe was selected by Speaker of the House Dan Hawkins to represent Kansas on the National Conference of State Legislature's Task Force on Higher Education. The NCSL -Task Force on Higher Education brings together a bipartisan group of 29 legislative leaders in higher education from 29 states to explore state and federal strategies to make college more affordable for students and taxpayers, improve completion rates, and reduce the incidence of unrepayable student debt.
