BioRep. David Martin has represented Genesee County in the Michigan House of Representatives since 2021. He now represents the 68th House District, which spans portions of Genesee and Oakland counties. It includes the cities of Davison, Grand Blanc, the majority of Burton, as well as the Village of Goodrich, Atlas Township, Davison Township and portions of Genesee and Grand Blanc townships in Genesee County. It also includes Groveland Township in Oakland County.
Committees
David is the minority vice chair of the House Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee. He also serves on the Economic Development and Small Business Committee, as well as the Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security Committee.
Public Office and Professional Affiliations
After graduating from Davison High School in 1979, David enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years, retiring as the weather operations manager at the U.S. Army Aviation Center in Fort Rucker, Ala.
David's first job when he returned to Genesee County was to oversee security for the Pontiac Silverdome, which had him directing security during a presidential visit. He then served as Operations Manager for VirSec Protective Services in Troy before becoming Mott Community College's veteran services coordinator.
Prior to his election to the House, David served as a Genesee County Commissioner from 2016 to 2020 and on the Davison City Council from 2009 to 2013.
Throughout his time as a public servant, David has worked to limit government and serve as a strong voice for the communities he represents.
Personal
David and his wife Grace live in Davison, where they attend First Baptist Church. They have four married adult children and 25 grandchildren.
An active member of his community, David is a past commander of the Davison American Legion Post, past master of the Davison Masonic Lodge, Flint Blue Badge volunteer, and served as Brigade Command Sergeant Major with the Michigan Volunteer Defense Force.
