BioSen. Julia Coleman is currently serving her first term as a member of the Minnesota Senate. She represents Minnesota's 47th District, which includes Chaska, Chanhassen, Victoria, Waconia, and surrounding Carver County Communities. Senator Coleman is the vice-chair of the Metropolitan Council Governance Committee and serves on the committees on K-12 Education, Taxes, Transportation.
Senator Coleman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Minnesota. During her time at the U, she served as the Student Body Representative to the Board of Regents and worked for multiple branches of government. She also interned in the governor's office and at the Minnesota Senate.
In 2014, Senator Coleman won the title of Miss Minneapolis, earning scholarship money to help pay for her degree. In her role, she traveled to various parts of the country to speak about the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and was featured in a mental health documentary.
Senator Coleman helps run a local Miss America Scholarship program that mentors several young women each year.
Prior to being elected to the Senate, Senator Coleman was the public relations manager for Medical Alley and served on the Chanhassen City Council.
Senator Coleman lives in Chanhassen with her husband Jacob, who serves as a firefighter. She is active in the Chanhassen Lions Club, leading its committee on public relations efforts. She welcomed her first child, Adam, in October of 2019, and is expecting Twins in the spring of 2021.
