BioJohn Voss was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, the youngest of three sons to Henry and Betty Voss. He attended Trinity Lutheran Elementary School and Central High School. After graduating high school, John attended the University of Missouri at Rolla (Now Missouri S&T), earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management, with a minor in Electrical Engineering. John met his wife Janice while attending school in Rolla, and they are the proud parents of three sons - Justin, Jordan and Jackson.
After graduating from university, John joined Procter & Gamble as a manufacturing leader. John served in various roles in manufacturing, engineering, and distribution & logistics, retiring in 2019 after 33 years of service. He has lived in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Manchester, England, Warsaw, Poland, and Sheboygan, Wisconsin. John asked to transfer back to Cape Girardeau when the P&G Tissue Towel Plant was being built in 1998 so that he could raise his family in Southeast Missouri.
Back in Cape Girardeau, John again sought out leadership roles within his church and Scouting. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran School Board, and also served as Vice President of the congregation. He served various roles in Scouting, eventually becoming Scout Master for Troop 311. John was Shawnee District Friends of Scouting leader, setting new fundraising records, and has provided countless hours of training throughout the District and Council as a member of Wood Badge staffs to train adult leaders. He was recognized as the Shawnee District volunteer of the year, and has received the Award of Merit.
In addition to Scouting, John has taught Dave Ramsey finance classes, and has served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity, serving as Construction Chair and Chair of the Board of Directors. He has been Committeeman for his precinct in the Cape Girardeau County Republican Central Committee, serving as Chairman for 2 terms, in addition to being a member of the Senatorial and Judicial committees for his area. John was successful in his election to represent Ward 1 in the City of Cape Girardeau in 2006, and was re-elected in 2010. During his Council service, John served on the Magnet and Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and served as Mayor Pro Tem in 2013 and 2014.
John currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Trustees for the Cape Girardeau Public Library, is the Chair of the Executive Council for Banterra Bank in Cape Girardeau, and is Treasurer for the Industrial Development Authority Board for Cape Girardeau County. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Cape Girardeau, and Elks Lodge 639. John and Janice have once again opened their home as a host family for college baseball players for the 2022 Cape Girardeau Catfish baseball team.
