BioI am running because I care. I care about what is happening in our community - here in Miami and Darke counties and across Ohio. Being a pastor in our community for the past 25 years has made me see that we need more people with integrity and conservative values to step up and speak up for what is right. Watching what has happened with the passage of Issue 1, threats to parents' rights, and progressivism taught in our education system has stirred my conscience. It is not enough for me to want someone else to speak up for what is right. I will be that person to step up and speak up. I know what it's like to face hard things and have the courage to take action. I want the people of District 80 to know they have someone who will represent them in the State House and work hard to help our community be the best it can be so that our children, families, and businesses flourish.
My beautiful wife, Jeni, and I have been married for 26 years and have three awesome adult children. We love Troy and Miami County. This is where our children grew up learning the value of friendship and hard work from the great examples set by their teachers, coaches, bosses, and church leaders. My life was shaped by the same kind of heritage where faithfulness to family means everything. My parents were married for more than 61 years. Mom was a public school teacher for 31 years. Dad was an Army Veteran and worked a factory job for 45 years. Underneath all this was the strong foundation of faith in the Lord Jesus and love of country where we have the liberty to worship freely.
I have bachelor's degrees in religious studies and sociology from Union University in Jackson, TN and a master's degree in divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN. I discovered that I have an entrepreneurial spirit when Jeni and I started a new church 25 years ago. I have been the lead pastor of Koinos Church since then. That means we know what hard work is. And it also means we have found an amazing amount of love in this community. We love investing our lives in our family and in the people around us. The friendships we have here are a blessing and will last a lifetime.
A pastor running for office - yes. For twenty-five years I have been a pastor at one of Troy's churches. I am standing on the shoulders of giants as I seek election. All of the American Founding Fathers respected the Christian faith deeply and a number of them were devout in their faith. One of them was John Witherspoon, a Presbyterian pastor who drew upon biblical teaching to help shape the philosophy of morality and government written in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. He as well as other devout Christians such as Samuel Adams, John Jay, Patrick Henry and Roger Sherman were members of the Constitutional Congress and played numerous roles in forming the new nation and their states.
