Bio

Jefferson Shreve is a proven leader with decades of business and civic experience. He was born in Indy. He's the oldest of four siblings, and a member of a large, extended Indianapolis family. Shreve has always had a strong work ethic. From age 12, he worked as a paperboy, going door-to-door to deliver newspapers and collect subscriptions. These basic skills would later serve him well in public office, as he connected with those he served. He graduated from Indiana University, with a B.A. in political science. He later earned his Masters at the University of London, and his MBA from Purdue.

It was during a summer internship that he discovered his interest in real estate. He went on to found his first business just out of college. Over the next 30 years, Shreve grew his Storage Express business into the largest self-storage company headquartered in Indiana, encompassing more than 125 storage facilities across six states. In 2022, he sold the last big portion of his company to Extra Space Storage, an S&P 500 company. He now serves on the board of directors of that public company. He continues to own Storage Express Construction, which has developed over 50 high-quality storage facilities in the Midwest.

Success with his business enabled Jeff to invest time in causes about which he cares deeply, including Indiana University, local healthcare, and IUPUI. He served on the board and as the National Chairman of the Indiana University Alumni Association from 2011-2016. He is an Executive Dean's board member of IU's College of Arts and Sciences, and the IUPUI Chancellor's Board. He serves on the board and executive committee of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.

Between 2013 and 2019, Shreve served twice on the Indianapolis City-County Council, representing council districts that included the south side. While on the council, he also served on the Police Staffing Commission. He additionally served as a commissioner on Indy's Metropolitan Development Commission.

Jefferson and his wife, Mary (who grew up in Washington Township) are parishioners of St. Roch's Catholic Church.
