Claggett is a Civil Engineer and President at Claggett & Sons, Inc., a fourth-generation commercial and industrial construction contractor in Newark. Claggett is also very involved in his community. Currently, he serves as President of the Licking County Library Board, a director of the area action council for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB Ohio), and a board member of the Central Ohio and Ohio chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors.

In 1997, Claggett was one of the founding members of his church congregation, located in Pataskala in a building built by Claggett & Sons. He has served as the Deacon Chairman for over 20 years and has recently completed a Master's Degree in theology. Rep. Claggett has been married to his wife for 24 years and they reside in Newark with their two children.
