Bio

Yvonne Hayes Hinson is an educator from Gainesville, Florida. She has two children, Kamelya and Ivan, and five grandchildren- Kamaya, Khambrel, Tierra, London, and Alexis. Hinson earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from the University of Florida, graduating in 1971 and 1972, respectively. Born on November 30 in Gainesville, she has remained deeply involved in her community. Her religious affiliation is Methodist, and her recreational interests include community activism and volunteerism.

Hinson was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2020 and has since been reelected. Prior to her legislative service, she served as a City Commissioner for Gainesville from 2012 to 2015. She has been actively involved in various organizations, including the ACLU, Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee, Democratic Women's Club, NAACP, and the University of Florida Black Alumni Association, where she served as president. She has also contributed to the Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee as Membership Chair and was the Democratic nominee for Florida's 3rd Congressional District in 2018. Hinson's community involvement includes serving as the former Finance Chair of the Gainesville Housing Authority Governing Board.
