BioMonika Johnson-Hostler
Wake County Board of Education
Monika Johnson Hostler is a native of Thomasville, North Carolina and a proud Thomasville City Schools Bulldog! Monika learned the importance of integrity from her family and the value of community and the importance of being a servant leader.
Drawn to help and serve others, Monika earned an undergraduate degree in psychology, a master's degree in public administration and became the leader of the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault, where she's advocated for thousands of women and children over the last twenty years.
When her daughter, Gabrielle, entered the Wake County school system, Monika saw opportunities for improvement in the schools. Spurred byher daughter's encouragement to "be the solution" Monika won a tough race for a seat on the school board. Currently serving her third term, Monika has helped expand the magnet program, partnered with local community colleges to expand career and technical education, and brought parents, teachers, and the community together to support public schools.
"I am an advocate in ensuring that all of our students are prepared to reach their full potential and lead productive lives in a complex and changing world. That commitment is bigger than any role I have had, sought or hold. Today I stand on the same values that led me here in 2013. In total honesty because of the past 8 years, I have a deeper understanding as a parent and the wife of a teacher, on what it means to advocate to make sure all children have access to a quality education, teachers receive the support they need and to give the parents in District 2 a voice on the school board. It has and is my greatest honor to serve the parents, teachers, community partners and students of Wake County and I invite you all to join me, yet again, on this journey."
Re-Elect Monika Johnson-Hostler for Wake County Board of Education, District 2.
