Bio

I'm Tommy John Schiavoni. I'm a husband, father, teacher and Suffolk County native. I was born and raised on Eastern Long Island, and I've been working to strengthen its communities, economies and environment my whole adult life.

For three generations, my family has operated a plumbing and heating business in Sag Harbor. At age twelve, I joined the family business and learned valuable skills that I've taken with me for life. Growing up on construction sites surrounded by master tradesmen instilled in me the importance of a strong work ethic, a spirit of community service and the desire to find pragmatic solutions to problems - mechanical or otherwise.

Those experiences on the job formed the heart of my academic pursuits. I earned my undergraduate degree at SUNY Cortland and began my career as a teacher which would last more than 3-decades. While teaching high school social studies and government in the Center Moriches School District, I completed my Masters Degree at SUNY Stony Brook. My experience in public education culminated in service as Vice President of the Sag Harbor School Board.

As we all know, our Fire Departments, parks, libraries, museums, varied and historic houses of worship, small businesses, local and state governments, and more are filled with people devoting time and effort to make things better. It's an honor to serve among them. I was elected to the Southampton Town Board after having served on the Sag Harbor School Board as Vice President, the Southampton Town Zoning Board of Appeals, and the North Haven Village Board and ZBA.
