Bio

Jon D. Brien (I) was elected in November 2022 as the State Representative from District 49 in Woonsocket and North Smithfield​. He previously represented District 50 in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2012. He is a member of the House Labor Committee, House Oversight Committee, and House State Government and Elections Committee. During the most recent session, he sponsored the Transparency in Arts Education Access and Proficiency Act, which promotes education in the arts at the middle and high school levels by requiring each middle and high school to provide annual reports on the availability of, and percentage of students enrolled in, arts education courses.​ A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Representative Brien earned his juris doctor from New York Law School in 1997 and a master of business administration degree from Suffolk University in 2001. He is an attorney with Brien Law Group Inc. He served as​ vice presid​​ent of the Woonsocket City Council from 2016 to 2020.

Representative Brien was born on November 21, 1970. He resides in Woonsocket with his wife, Nicole Bourget Brien. He has four children, Kristen, Chad, Juliana, and Gabriella.​
