He previously was council president for two years and chair of the the Finance Committee for three years, which oversees the City's $25,000,000 operating budget. Randy is the first LGBTQ+ person to ever serve as a local elected official in Fitchburg.

Since 2024, he has served as a Dane County Board supervisor representing District 33, which consists of the southern 2/3rds of the city of Fitchburg and includes a mixture of urban, suburban, and rural constituents. He currently serves on the Broadband Task Force and the Public Works & Transportation Committee. As the next representative for the 47th Assembly District, Randy will bring a unique combination of prior elected experience, extensive knowledge of business and finance, and a deep commitment to making state government work for both residents of the 47th District and Wisconsin as a whole. He has also been elected as the Treasurer of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin since 2015, elected by Democrats from across the state. Randy serves as a core member of Ben Wikler's team, overseeing a multi-million dollar budget for the state party. He has previously served as Chair and Treasurer of the Second Congressional District Democrats. Randy grew up as one of five children in a working-class family in Janesville, and is a fifth generation Wisconsinite. As an undergraduate at UW-Whitewater, Randy served as the President of Young Democrats and a student senator, in addition to working for Congressman Les Aspin, a representative for Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District.
