Parents & Families Programs

GSACA’s efforts to improve after school programs statewide are focused primarily on providing technical assistance for program improvement and accreditation support. We also believe that we must encourage programs to take the time, make the investments and pursue continuous improvement as part of an ongoing process. We attempt to encourage this process through various services aimed at providing financial resources, research and curriculum support, and promotion.

Many programs around the State are working hard to improve their programs and achieve accreditation status. Currently, we are working with 30 such programs. We know that too few programs are accredited in Georgia and we work hard to identify programs which might contemplate the serious commitment toward attaining National Afterschool Association accreditation. Currently, we have just 21 accredited programs in Georgia.

Technical Assistance Project and Endorsement of Programs

It takes a great deal of time (usually 2-21/2 years), effort and often resources to achieve accreditation. We recognize the commitment accredited programs place on continuous quality improvement and encourage you to consider an accredited program as your first choice in the selection of a program for your children, if one is available near you..

We encourage all programs to make a strong commitment to continuous improvement. Many programs are working hard right now, to improve the quality of their programs. We encourage you to consider a program in your area that has made the commitment to work with us on improving the quality of their programming, if one is available near you.

Promotion of Quality Programs

GSACA regularly and routinely recognizes and endorses efforts to expand funding for quality after-school programming. We want you to have quality after school and summer program options in your communities.

Currently, we are enlisting your help in supporting the Afterschool for All: Project 2010. In Georgia, The Georgia PTA and the Georgia Afterschool Investment Council (GAIC) are spearheading an effort to promote quality after-school for all Georgia's children and youth. By signing the declaration link below, you will help send a strong message to Georgia’s leaders that after-school and summer learning opportunities count for Georgia’s children and families.  The goal is to reach 100,000 parents, grandparents, and concerned citizens.. As the voice for after-school grows and strengthens, more of Georgia’s local and state leaders will make after-school and summer programs a priority.

All you have to do is sign this declaration and send it in or you can also sign up online at http://www.afterschool2010.org/join_GA.cfm.
