The purpose of the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program (SDFSC) is to support programs that prevent violence in and around schools and the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; involve parents; and coordinate these efforts and resources with other federal, state, and community entities. Allocations (based on poverty rate and student population) are made available to school districts to establish, operate, and improve local programs of school drug and violence prevention, early intervention, rehabilitation referral, and education in elementary through secondary schools.
